Check out the July 28, 2008 issue of Newsweek for an article on the 100th anniversary of Anne of Green Gables. The article, available online at http://www.newsweek.com/id/147758, discusses the continued, and often surprising, popularity of this classic. Immediately following in the paper edition is an article on the new film, Man on Wire, a documentary to be released August 1 about Philippe Petit, the inspiration for Mordicai Gerstein’s Caldecott Award-winning book, Man Who Walked Between the Towers. The film is for adults and covers more than the walk between the towers but be sure to display the book for parents to share with the kids and to show that children’s books covered this topic first!
