The Gaming Roundtable held a fun session Friday night offering the opportunity to play games, paint a minature figure, make a copper tape circuit, and play with robots. What a great opportunity to have hands on experience and gain lots of new programming ideas! Sorry about the picture … I couldn’t get it to rotate.

#alaac17 – ALSC PREconference: Celebrate the 2017 ALSC Honor Books
A PREconference celebrating the ALSC honor books was held on Saturday June 24th and featured honor winning authors for the Geisel, Sibert, Caldecott and Newbery awards in conversation with each other about their different books.

The start of #alaac17 brings the end of the #alaemergingleaders program, which means an informative poster session! And bonus, because it was the 10th anniversary of the EL program, there was cake! Being on this year’s ALSC Emerging Leaders Team, I got to present our findings on the path to youth library leadership to a multitude of interested librarians.

Storytime Underground held its first ever guerilla preconference earlier today at the Harold Washington Library. The theme for the morning? Children’s librarianship is social justice work. And it can save the world. Don’t believe me? It’s true.
As a First Time Attendee…so far so good. #alaac17
As a first time attendee of an ALA Annual Conference, I just have to say, WOW! Being a new staff member of ALSC, I’ve been doing a lot of prep for some of our meetings. With the help of staff, board members, and committee members, I have been learning so much, but now it’s all coming together because I’m getting to visualize it. I think one of the parts that blew me away was the exhibit set-up. I had to set up the ALSC table, and I got the opportunity to walk around and see the work everyone else was doing to their spaces. Watching the transformation was amazing! My eyes went everywhere! The couches, the TV screens, the rows and rows of books. The amount of passion and work that has gone into this is overwhelming to feel. Workers were literally working in mid-air off elevated platforms drilling and putting exhibits together….
