The 2018 Pura Belpré Award Selection Committee invites all ALSC members to submit suggestions of titles to be considered for the 2018 Pura Belpré Award, presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
The award is co-sponsored by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA), and the National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking (REFORMA), an ALA affiliate.

- Suggestions can be made for Author or Illustrator awards (or both.)
- The books must be published in the United States or Puerto Rico during 2017.
- Recipients of the Pura Belpré medal must be residents or citizens of the United States or Puerto Rico.
- Fiction and nonfiction books for children published in Spanish, English, or bilingual formats are eligible.
Current REFORMA/ALSC members can sign in and submit suggestions by completing this form, before October 15, 2017. We will give serious consideration to both REFORMA/ALSC members’ suggestions!
