In this approximately four-minute podcast, Becky White, a librarian with the Children’s Services department of the Allen County (IN) Public Library, joins me for a conversation about ways to use podcasting in library service to children.
While actual equipment is not discussed in the podcast, I will mention here that I use an Edirol R-09 WAVE/MP3 Recorder to record remotely, Garage Band with an attached Blue Snowball USB microphone to record at home, and Garage Band to edit. This should not be considered an endorsement of the products but rather to give those interested in podcasting an idea of what I have used for these podcasts. Speaking of home, during this podcast, the background noise you hear is my three-year-old son.

Thanks for the podcast! We are just starting to add podcasts to our webpage -learned the ropes last month with brand new equipment we received through a grant. One up on webpage and five recorded but not mounted yet! We are primarily using it as a vehicle to do shorty reviews of new books in the collection. This summer we’ll be working with kids to do podcasts of their storytelling; poetry and reviews of favorite books. We are also thinking of sharing some of our baby lapsit rhymes on a regular basis. We are using Garage Band on a Mac with a pretty basic mic; doing the editing (ha!) from there.

There is a podcast on Infoblog called Thinking Out Loud (http://infoblog.infopeople.org/podcasts/george_and_joan/). I would like to include something similar for the ALSC Blog. I could be part of the conversation (using Skype, we could have long-distance conversations) or I could edit the audio , write the program notes and upload the podcast of other ALSC members’ conversations regarding particular aspects of library service to children. Thoughts?
