One of the activities of ALSC’s Library Services for Underserved Children and Their Caregivers committee is to develop tools for librarians for working with their own communities of underserved children. Over the years, we have developed seven comprehensive toolkits designed to help librarians better serve their most vulnerable community members. These toolkits address the digital divide, autism and sensory processing needs, print disabilities, financial insecurity and homelessness, new Americans, Spanish-speaking populations, and trauma-informed care. Each provides practical guidance, resource recommendations, and community-centered approaches that position libraries as essential partners in supporting children and families facing various challenges. This year, our committee decided to take a look at the existing toolkits to update their content and formatting, giving them a fresh look with more images, reflecting evolving best practices and community needs.
