As we begin a new year, many of us think of resolutions and goals. Thanks to the ACPL Kids Blog, I learned about Laura, a nine-year-old girl who is in the process of completing one of her goals: reading all of the Newbery winners. Laura has her own blog where she shares her thoughts about the books, and she would love to know what other readers, especially other kids, think about the award-winning books. Thanks, Laura, for sharing your blog (http://lauramitolife.blogspot.com/) with us!
Wishing you all a wonderful new year,

Wow! What a fabulous blog by young Laura! As a member of the current Newbery committee, I find it fascinating to read a real kid’s take on some of these books. I know the award is not for popularity (necessarily, although popular books can and do win) and it is not a child-voted award. But I appreciate Laura’s perspective nonetheless.
Kudos also to Allen County for running some of the best, and best-known, “mock” award programs in the country!

Thank you so much for sharing my blog! It has been fun getting so many hits. I think that it would be nice to have a child on the committee. I know I would really LOVE to be a part of it. It does seem like a lot of children would not bother to read the books, but I hope there is another kid out there who reads hundreds of books a year.
Thank YOU!
Laura
