Yesterday, at an open meeting, the 2015 Newbery Committee came together for the first time. This introductory meeting was helpful for getting to know each other a little better, going over the criteria for the Newbery Medal, and talking about what to expect from this year of committee work. Guest speaker K.T. Horning, 2-time Newbery committee member and book evaluator extraordinaire, addressed the group, encouraging committee members to keep an open mind and to find ways to discuss eligible titles with other professionals and with children throughout the year.
I have a lot of work ahead of me, but I know it will be a great year!
