It’s Time to Head West, Friends!

Time is almost up to register for ALSC’s 2008 National Institute, and this book-wranglin’, star studded, Western event is something you will not want to miss!  Registration closes August 20, 2008, so don’t let this opportunity ride off into the great wide yonder without you.

Just recently a closing general session entitled, “Getting Graphic! Graphic Novels and Manga for Kids” (ages 5-11), was announced.  The presenter, Michele Gorman (author of Getting Graphic! Comic for Kids; Getting Graphic! Using Graphic Novels to Promote Literacy with Preteens and Teens; and Connecting Young Adults and Libraries: A How to Do it Manual, 3rd Edition), will explore the popularity of graphic novels for younger readers, from comic biographies to graphic novels about science and math.  This session is specifically tailored to librarians who want to know more about this format and why it’s so important to add these books to every elementary library or juvenile collection.

ALSC’s Association Connection program taking place at Institute will provide a good ‘ole time for all conference attendees with a Wednesday night Happy Hour, a Thursday afternoon trivia game, and a Friday evening gaming session.  These events are a great way for attendees to get to know one another, so don’t delay–register today!
