I am always intrigued when I hear about a children’s book that is being made into a movie. Will the film capture the spirit of the story as I remember it? Will the actors effectively and accurately portray the book characters? What will be the additions (or deletions!) to the plot line? Will the movie encourage more kids to track down the book and read it?
Among the many movies scheduled for release this summer are two based on very different children’s books. Mr. Popper’s Penguins by Florence & Richard Atwater, a classic read-aloud originally published in 1938, is scheduled for release on June 17th:
And, of course, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 will be hitting theaters near you at the end of the summer:
We all have books which we look forward to seeing on the big screen… and others which we watch only to leave the theater with disappointment.

Can I mention a book I wish had not been made into a movie? I adored the book “Ella Enchanted” by Gail Carson Levine, and I abhorred the movie! I felt it was so bad. It just about ruined the story. That book was (and is) so beautiful to me, and the movie made it into a bad comedy. Ick.
That said, I am looking forward to the “Hunger Games” movie, to see how Hollywood imagined that world.

I do love to watch this kind of movies that are based on children’s book. Though only a few had their success in the movies than selling a book.
