It’s 5:30 am, and I am excited to get on my flight to my first ever ALA Annual. I have my favorite sessions planned, all of my committee discussion materials prepared, and what feels like a million booths that I am ready to visit. I arrive at the airport to find long lines, angry passengers, and one word: CANCELLED.
Tropical Storm Cindy is causing chaos across the country, and she managed to cancel my sold-out flight to Chicago. Luckily, I did manage to get a ticket on another flight heading out today. Instead of learning about student transitions this afternoon, I will be able to fly into Chicago with some of my awesome coworkers and, in the meantime, get to know the ins and outs of the Columbus airport.
ALA Annual Lesson #1: Be prepared to be flexible. I will get to Chicago when I get there, and in the meantime I get to figure out what a Burger King breakfast sandwich tastes like. With some luck, I will have better news to send back to everyone at home after the Printz reception this evening. Good luck to everyone else flying into Chicago this morning!
