\"Insitute<\/a>Have you ever attended ALSC’s biennial National Institute<\/a>? \u00a0Now’s your chance, as it takes a turn on the west coast and lands in Oakland CA on September 18-20, 2014.\u00a0The Institute is an intimate and intensive conference and networking experience. Over two-and-a-half days you’ll have the opportunity to attend an amazing array of programs<\/a>, hear from and meet celebrated authors<\/a>,\u00a0\u00a0and get to know<\/a> your conference attendees.<\/p>\n

The theme of this institute is Expanding Our Worlds, Creating Community<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0and your Institute Task Force has built an array of programs, breakout sessions, and experiences to promote creative thinking about connecting our communities through libraries. \u00a0Interested in appropriate technology for children? \u00a0Advocacy within your reach? Easy-to-implement programming ideas around STEAM and early literacy? \u00a0Thinking about expanding your use of volunteers, or hearing about summer lunches in the library? \u00a0This institute is for you, and we invite you to bring your ideas, and your questions.<\/p>\n

A special Friday afternoon of breakout sessions and a reception will serve as the think-tank centerpiece of our event, at Oakland’s Children’s Fairyland<\/a>, a storybook theme park. Adults are normally only allowed into Fairyland with a child accompanying; at our event we will have the park to ourselves! Look forward to a post soon from Penny Peck with more about Children’s Fairyland.<\/p>\n

Over the next many weeks we’ll be sharing some sneak peeks into programs and events to whet your appetite, but don’t hesitate to register now<\/a>, as there is a cap on attendance. \u00a0And consider adding time to your trip to explore Oakland. Whether it’s\u00a0the food scene<\/a>, the\u00a0up and coming arts district<\/a>, the fabulous fall weather, or the easy access to San Francisco, you’ll find you’ll be happy to stay an extra day.<\/p>\n
