With a colleague, Dr. Celano conducted research in two very different neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Based on this research, Dr. Celano offered an eye-opening presentation about\u00a0 how crucial our country&#8217;s public libraries are in helping kids &#8212; particularly those in lower socio-economic neighborhoods &#8212; to succeed and thrive. Libraries are the &#8220;safety net&#8221; for many kids; particularly low-income children.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/store.tcpress.com\/0807753580.shtml\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-7945\" alt=\"Giving our children\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Giving-our-children-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>This is an important topic to learn about, talk about, think about, and act upon. I am so glad ALSC offered an opportunity to hear this thought-provoking speaker.
