President Starr LaTronica opened up the session with a &#8220;Show and Tell&#8221; of the new and exciting things going on in ALSC. Here are the highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Charlemae Rollins will be presenting the <a href=\"http:\/\/ala14.ala.org\/preliminary-program?meettype_tid=13\">ALSC Presidents Program<\/a>, entitled &#8220;The Ripple Effect: Library Partnerships That Positively Impact Children, Families, Communities, and Beyond&#8221; at ALA Annual in Las Vegas on June 30th.<\/li>\n<li>ALSC will be holding Community Forums on Common Core Collaboration in February and March.<\/li>\n<li>Registration for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dia.ala.org\/\">Dia!<\/a> (Diversity in Action) Day programs is now open.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/everyday-advocacy\/\">Everyday Advocacy<\/a>\u00a0is a fairly new site that is a resource for librarians for &#8220;both day-to-day advocacy and crisis advocacy&#8221;. If you haven&#8217;t checked it out yet, it&#8217;s a\u00a0great site!<\/li>\n<li>Registration for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/institute\">ALSC Institute<\/a>\u00a0on September 18th to 20th in Oakland, California is now open! Steve Shenkin is presenting the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/news\/press-releases\/2014\/01\/steve-sheinkin-present-opening-session-2014-alsc-institute\">Opening Session<\/a>\u00a0and special events include an afternoon visit to the <a href=\"http:\/\/fairyland.org\/\">Children&#8217;s Fairyland<\/a> theme park!<\/li>\n<li>ALSC has two forthcoming publications. The first is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alastore.ala.org\/detail.aspx?ID=10887\"><em>Popular Picks for Young Readers <\/em><\/a>Ed. by Diane Foote, which is a helpful reader&#8217;s advisory\/collection development guide for librarians\u00a0with more than 500 newer titles recommended for children ages birth through\u00a014. The second is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alastore.ala.org\/detail.aspx?ID=10886\"><em>The Newbery and Caldecott Awards: A Guide to the Medal and Honor Books<\/em><\/a>, newly updated with the 2014 titles.
