<\/a>But it’s not the seventies and children now have iPods, iPads, iPhones, android phones, portable video games, Nintendo, tablets, Nook, Kindle, and other digital devices. \u00a0Most children are reading, sleeping, playing video games, listening to music or watching movies in the car.<\/p>\n Here are two great activities to get the whole family involved:<\/p>\n Stories:<\/strong>\u00a0 Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes<\/em> by Eric Litwin<\/a><\/p>\n Possible items to uses: Pete the Cat books, books on cd, Pete the Cat Read and Play on the Nook<\/a>, Pete the Cat app<\/a> (game and music only), musical instruments, paper and crayons, download Pete activities and songs<\/a>.<\/p>\n Sing the songs, read the story and listen to the music. \u00a0Add up the strawberries on the Nook interactive book and squish blueberries. \u00a0Add colors to Pete’s shoes and make up your own story of what Pete stepped in. \u00a0Oh No! \u00a0Pete stepped in a huge pile of peach ice cream! What color were his shoes? Peach! \u00a0Bring musical instruments along to play and sing with! \u00a0Make your own Pete the Cat shoe shakers.<\/p>\n Supplies needed: \u00a0White and blue construction paper, toilet paper rolls, glue sticks, crayons, and beans to make the shaker noise.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Art Museums: \u00a0<\/strong>If you are visiting a museum this summer, make sure to check out the museum online and download the free app. \u00a0Print out family activities for the car and talk about the exhibit before you go. \u00a0 Read your favorite art book like Art Do<\/em>g by Thacher Hurd. \u00a0Draw different objects from each floor of the museum. \u00a0Create your own driveway art show. \u00a0Display your art work around the car when you get home!<\/p>\n For more favorite apps, art apps, and museum road trip library ideas, please email me at paigeb@dpls.us<\/p>\n Also, please join our ALSC Digital Content Task Force group on ALA Connect. \u00a0Share ideas! Read and listen! \u00a0A few great museum app examples: \u00a0MoMa, Museum of Modern Art,<\/a>\u00a0Oakland Museum of California<\/a>, The Getty<\/a>,\u00a0and The American Museum of Natural History<\/a>. \u00a0You can also purchase the MoMA Art Lab<\/a> app to create your own masterpiece.<\/p>\n<\/a>
