The lecture, entitled \u201cWar Boy to War Horse,\u201d\u009d will be held at 7 p.m. on May 16, 2013 in Rochester, N.Y. and will be hosted by Nazareth College and the Youth Services Section of the New York Library Association. <\/p>\n

The honor lectureship will be tied to several other significant events for librarians and readers of children\u2019s and young adult literature during Children\u2019s Book Week and will kick off the 38th annual NYLA Youth Services Section\u2019s Spring Conference. Required tickets are FREE for the lecture and must be obtained through the Youth Services Section of the New York Library Association. Born in England, Michael Morpurgo<\/a> was teaching when he discovered the magic of storytelling and began writing. With more than 100 titles for young people, his books are noted for their imagination, power, and grace. War Horse has enthralled both theater goers who have attended the play in London and across North America and movie audiences that watched Steven Spielberg\u2019s award-winning 2011 film.<\/p>\n

The May Hill Arbuthnot Honor Lecture celebrates May Hill Arbuthnot, who served as a strong voice for children\u2019s literature. Each year a lecturer is chosen who will prepare a paper considered to be a significant contribution to the field of children’s literature. This paper is delivered as a lecture each spring, and is subsequently published in Children & Libraries, the journal of ALSC. ALSC established the lecture series in 1969 with sponsorship from Scott, Foresman and Company.
