Applications are due <strong>Monday, April 22, 2013<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>Pinkney is a New York Times best-selling writer of more than 20 books for children and young adults including picture books, novels and nonfiction.  Her work includes such award winning titles \u201cLet it Shine: Stories of Black Women Freedom Fighters,\u201d\u009d illustrated by Stephen Alcorn, published by Harcourt,a Coretta Scott King Author Honor Book;and \u201cDuke Ellington: The Piano Prince and His Orchestra,\u201d\u009d illustrated by Brian Pinkney, published by Hyperion Books for Children, a Caldecott Honor and Coretta Scott King Honor Book.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/awardsgrants\/bookmedia\/arbuthnothonor\/arbuthnothonor\" title=\"Arbuthnot Honor Lecture\">Arbuthnot Lecture<\/a> is an annual event, announced at the American Library Association\u2019s Midwinter Meeting, in which an author, critic, librarian, historian or teacher of children\u2019s literature presents a paper that makes a significant contribution to the field. A library school, department of education in a college or university or a children\u2019s library system may be considered. The lecture is administered by ALSC.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/2014-arbuthnot-host-app\" title=\"Host Application \">Host site application forms<\/a> can be downloaded at the ALSC website. Applications are due April 22, 2013. Information about host site responsibilities is included in the application materials.
