So, without further ado, welcome to our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/category\/alsc-member-profile\/\" target=\"_blank\">ALSC profile<\/a>, ten questions with ALSC member, <strong>Joanna Ison.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Joanna-Ison.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-6238\" alt=\"Joanna Ison\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Joanna-Ison-150x150.jpeg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0What do you do, and how long have you been doing it?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I am ALSC\u2019s new Program Officer for Projects and Partnerships.\u00a0 I started in this position in late December 2012.<\/p>\n<p><b>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What\u2019s your favorite season?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Summer, my first Chicago winter can\u2019t end soon enough!<\/p>\n<p><b>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What are you proudest\u00a0of\u00a0having accomplished in your professional career?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">My proudest accomplishment is the two years I served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Kyrgyzstan.\u00a0 I had the great opportunity to work alongside motivated teachers, business owners, and community members to implement a number of education and development projects in our small village.\u00a0 The whole experience was fantastic!<\/p>\n<p><b>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 What is your favorite word?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">I can\u2019t think of just a single word, but my favorite phrase is a Kyrgyz proverb:\u00a0 \u00d0\u00ad\u00d0\u00ba\u00d0\u00b8 \u00d1\u201a\u00d0\u00be\u00d0\u00be \u00d0\u00ba\u00d3\u00a9\u00d1\u20ac\u00d2\u00af\u00d1\u02c6\u00d0\u00bf\u00d3\u00a9\u00d0\u00b9. \u00d0\u00ad\u00d0\u00ba\u00d0\u00b8 \u00d0\u00b0\u00d0\u00b4\u00d0\u00b0\u00d0\u00bc \u00d0\u00ba\u00d3\u00a9\u00d1\u20ac\u00d2\u00af\u00d1\u02c6\u00d3\u00a9\u00d1\u201a. The English translation is \u201cTwo mountains can never meet, but two people always can.\u201d\u009d<\/p>\n<p><b>5.\u00a0 Carnivore, Omnivore, or Herbivore?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Herbivore.<\/p>\n<p><b>6.\u00a0 What children\u2019s book character did you most identify with growing up?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">If you ask my parents they would probably tell you Alexander in <i>Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day<\/i> by Judith Viorst.\u00a0 But I think I identified more with the kid in Dr. Seuss\u2019 <i>Oh, the Places You\u2019ll Go!<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>7.\u00a0 Eating out or eating at home?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Both!\u00a0 I love to cook but I also love to sample foods from all over the world.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/jumanji.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-thumbnail wp-image-6241\" alt=\"Jumanji\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/jumanji-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>8.\u00a0 Favorite Caldecott book?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><i>Jumanji<\/i>\u00a0by Chris Van Allsburg (1982 winner).\u00a0 I liked this book so much growing up that I named my dog Jumanji.<\/p>\n<p><b>9.\u00a0\u00a0If you could bring a folk or fairytale character to life, who would it be?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Mulan from the Disney animated feature film &#8212; she is tough, she is witty, she stands up for what she believes and who wouldn&#8217;t want to meet the woman who saved China?!<\/p>\n<p><b>10.\u00a0\u00a0Campfire or fireplace?<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Campfire.\u00a0 I love hiking, camping, biking, climbing mountains\u2026 anything outside!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0***********************************************<\/p>\n<p>Thanks, Joanna!
