Maybe that explains why I&#8217;m so excited about the 16th birthday of\u00a0El d\u00ed\u00ada de los ni\u00f1os\/El d\u00ed\u00ada de los libros (Children&#8217;s Day\/Book Day). I was there as this D\u00ed\u00ada child was born and have been a loving aunt all of these years.\u00a0What makes this birthday so sweet? So many exciting things are happening for the 16th birthday and D\u00ed\u00ada has so many friends at the party!<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"color: #ff4b33; line-height: 24px;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.patmora.com\/dia\/dia_ambassadors.htm\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.patmora.com\/dia\/images\/ambassadors\/dia_ambassador_badge.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"96\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a>Recently Pat Mora,\u00a0D\u00ed\u00ada&#8217;s founder, invited authors and illustrators to become\u00a0D\u00ed\u00ada Ambassadors. Check out the\u00a0fabulous list at\u00a0http:\/\/www.patmora.com\/dia\/dia_ambassadors.htm for some of the wonderful people who are adding their voices, in many languages, to\u00a0D\u00ed\u00ada. Books by people like George Ancona (<em>\u00a1Ole! flamenco<\/em>), Jacqueline Jules (<em>Zapato Power:\u00a0Freddie Ramos Takes Off<\/em>),<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/freddy.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-4061\" title=\"freddy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/freddy.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nand Uma Krishnaswami (<em>Chachaji&#8217;s Cup<\/em>) provide fabulous books to use during Dia programming throughout the year. Throughout April to celebrate D\u00ed\u00ada, these ambassadors will be blogging, tweeting, speaking, presenting, reading, and talking about Dia! Many will be reading their stories as part of the 2011\u00a0D\u00ed\u00adapalooza (a month of D\u00ed\u00ada posts) on Pat Mora&#8217;s blog, <a href=\"http:\/\/sharebookjoy.blogspot.com\/\">Bookjoy<\/a>. These readings can be shared with children at your library. The first, by Margarita Engle reading from <em>The Wild Book<\/em>, can be viewed now with more to come <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/wild.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4064 alignleft\" title=\"wild\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/wild.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"130\" height=\"190\" \/><\/a>throughout the month.<\/p>\n<p>The D\u00ed\u00ada\u00a0Every Day concept is kicking into high gear with more and more schools and libraries including bilingual literacy into everyday, ongoing programs, storytimes, and displays. More school libraries are celebrating D\u00ed\u00ada this year and have registered their programs on the <a href=\"http:\/\/cs.ala.org\/websurvey\/alsc\/dia\/map.cfm\">ALSC map<\/a>. (There is still time to add your celebration to the map!) \u00a0ALSC has also released the newly updated <a href=\"http:\/\/dia.ala.org\/sites\/default\/files\/Spanish%20brochure%20-%20FINAL3-28-12.pdf\">D\u00ed\u00ada brochure<\/a>, and it is available in Spanish and Chinese versions. The D\u00ed\u00ada\u00a0booklist includes a wide range of great books, with some suggestions for books that are bilingual in a variety of languages.
