Celebrate on April 30"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s almost that time of year again &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/initiatives\/dia\">El d\u00eda de los ni\u00f1os\/El d\u00eda de los libros (Children&#8217;s Day\/Book Day), commonly known as D\u00eda!<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">D\u00eda is a celebration of children, families, and reading that culminates yearly on April 30 \u2013 just two weeks away. This nationally-recognized initiative spearheaded by ALSC emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds. While this is a year-round initiative, we celebrate all that we\u2019ve accomplished throughout the year at the end of April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Common goals of D\u00eda programming include:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Celebrating children and connecting them to the world of learning through books, stories and libraries;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nurturing cognitive and literacy development in ways that honor and embrace a child\u2019s home language and culture;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Introducing families to community resources that provide opportunities for learning through multiple literacies;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Recognizing and respecting culture, heritage and language as powerful tools for strengthening families and communities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are many ways that ALSC and libraries across the United States celebrate, including booklists, programming, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-booklists\"><u>Booklists<\/u><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"412\" height=\"650\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/dia-booklist-412x650.png\" alt=\"At the top of the image against a purple rectangle reads: &quot;Lista de Libros; Nacimiento-Preescolar.&quot; Underneath is a green circle against a background of books in various colors. There are currently 75+ programs to peruse!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019d like to submit your own program to the registry, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/initiatives\/dia\/2025-national-dia-program-registry-form\">use this form<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-share-information-about-dia-to-your-community\"><strong><u>Share Information About D\u00eda to Your Community<\/u><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the ways libraries spread the word about D\u00eda booklists and programming is through their social media channels. ALSC offers two grant opportunities that typically have February deadlines:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mini-Grants from REFORMA<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reforma.org\/\">REFORMA<\/a>, the National Association to Promote Library &amp; Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish Speaking, awards up to five mini-grants of $500 each year to support a D\u00eda program that celebrates Latino\/x\/\u00e9 culture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Grant from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csmcl.org\/\">The Center for the Study of Multicultural Children\u2019s Literature (CSMCL)<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 CSMCL awards a grant to a library serving children and their families that is holding a D\u00eda library program with an African American focus.
