The ALSC blog has a new post almost every day \u2013 but are you having trouble remembering to visit the blog and see the latest content? One solution is to set up an RSS Feed for yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Really Simple Syndicate (RSS) Feeds allow you to gather and organize updates from your favorite online content, such as blogs and podcasts, in one easy space. Here\u2019s a step-by-step guide to setting up your own feed and adding the ALSC blog to it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1 \u2013 Choose a RSS Feed Reader<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first step to creating your feed is to choose the feed reader that\u2019s right for you. Readers range from simple to complex, with various levels of customization. Also be aware that some readers will charge a fee, especially if you plan to do a large amount of customization \u2013 before you pay for any, be sure to read reviews to decide which one is right for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I personally use the RSS Feed Reader extension for Google Chrome<\/a>, but other options include Feedly\u2019s News Reader<\/a>, NewsBlur<\/a>, and  Inoreader<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2 \u2013 Add the ALSC Blog Feed to Your Reader<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The ALSC blog feed\u2019s URL is https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/feed<\/a> – in your RSS Feed Reader, navigate to where you can add a feed, paste this address into it, and add it to your feed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re using the RSS Feed Reader Chrome extension, this is done by clicking the \u201cadd feed\u201d button in the left-hand column:<\/p>\n\n\n

Then add the URL into the text box and click \u201cfollow\u201d to add it to your feed:<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 3 \u2013 Customize Your RSS Feed<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Feed Readers have various levels of customization based on what reader you are using. This includes setting up notifications, enabling email digests, choosing a design theme, and creating rules so that you only see certain content from feeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be sure to explore the many options for whatever feed reader you choose!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

RSS Feeds not only allow you to keep up-to-date on content from sites and creators you like, but also take control over the information you receive \u2013 an incredibly useful tool in the age of doomscrolling and endless algorithms.
