To say it has been an adventure is an understatement. If you have never attended a national conference, I highly recommend it. There is so much to see, learn, and do. If you asked me to determine what part was my favorite, I don’t know if I could choose. This year it was the opening with Trevor Noah, walking the exhibit hall floor, connecting with old friends and making new ones.

Every year conference does one main thing for me as an attendee. It invigorates me. I get excited all over again to be involved in such a great organization that works so hard for something I believe in. My conference this year is ending with the ALA President Inaugural Luncheon. This is a first time event for me. I am looking forward to meeting and networking with people and learning how else I can lend a hand.

Celeste Rhoads, Soline Holmes, Kelley Taksier, and Arlene Laverde at the Newbery Caldecott Legacy Banquet. She has been the school librarian at Townsend Harris High School in Queens NY for ten years and worked in various high schools and elementary schools in Brooklyn and Queens. When in school she never considered librarianship as a career. She started as an elementary school teacher and accidentally fell into the role as a school librarian. She hasn’t looked back since. She is currently serving as co-chair for the AASL 2025 National Conference in St. Louis and will be attending the Morris Seminar in Denver, Colorado this September. She’s looking forward to the Newbery Caldecott Legacy Banquet, as well as not only reconnecting with friends from around the country, but meeting new ones throughout the conference. Now that she is a retiree, all things are possible and looks forward to exploring her many interests, as well as the continued fight for library advocacy.
