Book joy! Yes\u2026I know you are thinking\u2026at the end of every library\u2026there is book joy. These familiar lyrics are from the theme song of Reading Rainbow, a children\u2019s television series featuring stories from around the world. From 1983 to 2006, Reading Rainbow was dedicated to encouraging the love of books, reading, and exploring the world through books. As November arrives with falling leaves, changing temperatures, and picturesque landscapes, society\u2019s tumultuous relationship with books stays at the forefront of our minds. It behooves us to continue to stand together in celebration and praise for all libraries are, have been, and will continue to be. Check out these November events to reclaim the joy in libraries by partaking in these literary celebrations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Author\u2019s Day (Nov. 1) <\/strong>originated in 1928 but has been formally acknowledged since 1949. Readers use this day to show appreciation for the authors that color their bookshelves with literary works.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Family Literacy Day<\/strong> (Nov. 1) <\/strong>highlights the power and joy of reading as a family.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Book Awards Ceremony (Nov. 15) <\/strong>was <\/strong>established in 1989 to honor prestigious literary works.This year, the ceremony will be hosted by Levar Burton, the former host and executive producer of Reading Rainbow. Library and Information Services Month (November) <\/strong>originated in the Philippines in 1991 <\/strong>to raise awareness and <\/strong>public interest in the diverse programming, training, and services offered through libraries.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Philippine Book Development Month (November) <\/strong>serves as a reminder to discover new Filipino authors, because the literary landscape in the Philippines was originally dominated by English literary figures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Novel Writing Month (November)<\/strong>, also referred to as NaNoWriMo, is a literary event that challenges individuals to write a novel in thirty days.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, take a look, it\u2019s in a book\u2026let\u2019s ride the wave of nostalgia, knowing at the end of every rainbow lies possibilities. Library professionals, let’s stand together this month in celebration of all the good libraries bring to communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
