{"id":29804,"date":"2023-11-13T00:01:13","date_gmt":"2023-11-13T05:01:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/?p=29804"},"modified":"2023-10-29T17:58:19","modified_gmt":"2023-10-29T21:58:19","slug":"apply-for-a-penguin-random-house-young-readers-group-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/2023\/11\/apply-for-a-penguin-random-house-young-readers-group-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Apply for a Penguin Random House Young Readers Group Award!"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/aboutalsc\/coms\/als-schlpro\">Professional Recognition and Scholarships Committee<\/a> is seeking applications from ALSC members for the Penguin Random House Young Readers Group Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This award, made possible by an annual gift from Penguin Young Readers Group and Random House Children&#8217;s Books, provides a $600 stipend to up to four children&#8217;s librarians to attend their first ALA Annual Conference. This would be a great opportunity in particular for any new librarians who are in or close to San Diego!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each applicant will be judged on the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Involvement in ALSC, as well as any other professional or educational association of which the applicant was a member, chair, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>New programs or innovations started by the applicants at the library in which they work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Library experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applicants must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/member-center\/alsc-membership\">Be personal members of ALSC as well as ALA<\/a>; organizational members are not eligible<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work directly with children in elementary, middle schools or public libraries<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have less than ten years, but more than one year, of experience as a children&#8217;s librarian by the opening of the Annual Conference<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Have no previous attendance at an in-person ALA Annual Conference<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Applications, along with the required <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/sites\/ala.org.alsc\/files\/content\/Penguin_SupervisorForm2024.docx\">Supervisor&#8217;s Supporting Statement form<\/a>, will be due by December 31, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you would like to review the application before submitting electronically, please refer to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/sites\/ala.org.alsc\/files\/content\/Penguin%20Sample%20Application%20Form%202024.docx\">sample application form<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you have questions about the fellowship please contact the co-chairs of the Professional Recognition and Scholarships Committee, Elizabeth Burns (<a href=\"mailto:eburns@njstatelib.org\">eburns@njstatelib.org<\/a>) and Mary Schreiber (<a href=\"mailto:schreiberalsc@gmail.com\">schreiberalsc@gmail.com<\/a>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Want to learn more?
