Felt pieces can add a visual element to songs and provide an opportunity for children to be a part of the storytelling process. In this post, I will give you tips on how you can create felt pieces for storytime and some examples!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to Make Your Own Felt Pieces<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I started as a Children\u2019s Librarian, I was so excited to purchase every felt board set that could be found online, but this can be pricey! Making felt board pieces yourself can save you a lot of money and they are very simple to make. Here are some tips to make your own pieces:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be sure to purchase multicolor packs of felt, a good pair of scissors, and tacky glue and\/or a hot glue gun.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find outlines of the shapes you want to cut out and tape the outline to a piece of felt.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a felt piece requires multiple parts, carefully cut the outline and paste the right parts to the appropriate color felt.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you cannot make felt pieces, that\u2019s okay! You can print and laminate pictures, and paste sandpaper to the back.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Need a YouTube tutorial? Make mermaids with different color tails and hide a felt pearl under the tails. Because there are several parts to making the mermaids, this set can be a challenge to make. However, this game will keep your group engaged!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>White Rabbit\u2019s Color Book<\/em> by Alan Baker<\/strong>: One very simple interactive felt board story is this classic that teaches children colors! For this story, I used a rabbit outline to make the different color rabbits. With this set, I like to introduce the animals and their sounds. From there, we sing the song together with each child putting a piece on the board when I call the animal name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Parts of a Tree<\/strong>: If you are planning a STEAM storytime program, this felt board set can be useful for you!
