Overlaid with the voices of awarded authors, the video brought enthusiastic applause and a few emotional tears. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leonard Marcus, children&#8217;s literature historian, addressed the question of whether the Newbery had fulfilled its promise. We were reminded of so many firsts and boundaries expanded from science fiction to poetry to biography to picture books and more. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A bit of fun followed with an author librarian face-off hosted by Steve Sheinkin and Stacey Rattner, modeled after their popular YouTube series, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/c\/authorfanfaceoff\">Author Fan Face-Off<\/a>.&#8221; While the authors came out the winners of the face-off, the librarians in the room won the day with a marvelous party. And, really, we all have won with 100 years of excellence in children&#8217;s literature. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right wp-block-paragraph\">(Photo courtesy of guest blogger)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Conference guest contributor <strong>Crystal Faris<\/strong> (she, her, hers) leads the Youth &amp; Family Engagement Team at Kansas City Public Library which includes staff working in the branches, in outreach, and with the Digital Media Lab. She\u2019s most looking forward to attending the Newbery\/Caldecott Banquet and hearing those speeches in person.
