I had an absolutely amazing Friday at #ALAAC22! This is my first time at an ALA Annual Conference. I had the opportunity to be working as well as learning with an awesome group of participants of the ALA Emerging Leaders<\/a> (EL). The EL program is designed to enable library staff and information workers to participate in project planning work groups, network with peers, gain an inside look into ALA structure, and have an opportunity to serve the profession in a leadership capacity early in their careers. I highly recommend applying to this program since it\u2019s been such a wonderful experience! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the program, I worked with a few other ALSC members on a research project called Welcoming and Engaging Students in ALSC and Children\u2019s Services. Besides just working on a research project, participants attended professional development webinars on topics including building your personal brand, mindfulness, and imposter syndrome. Getting to meet the three other members of the Emerging Leaders Team K in-person as well as the rest of the participants of the program for the first time was fantastic! It\u2019s been so nice to connect with incredibly passionate colleagues from across the country and Canada in all different aspects of librarianship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yesterday, the EL cohort had a full day of learning about avoiding burnout as well as writing leadership letters to the Class of 2023 Emerging Leaders. We also presented a poster session in which #ALAAC22 attendees were able to learn more about the various projects each Emerging Leader Team completed. Fellow ALSC members, I very much encourage you to learn more about the EL program<\/a> and consider applying! I look forward to connecting more in the future with all of the Class of 2022 Emerging Leaders. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conference guest contributor Ashley Bressingham<\/strong> (she\/her) recently joined the New Rochelle Public Library in New Rochelle, NY as their Librarian II\/Children\u2019s Room Assistant Supervisor. She\u2019s excited to be attending her first ALA Annual Conference and to see fellow librarians in-person again! She\u2019s most looking forward to meeting the rest of the Emerging Leaders Team K members that worked on the Welcoming and Engaging Students in ALSC and Children\u2019s Services project. As a child, she wanted to grow up to be a princess, gain superpowers, or be on Broadway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
