{"id":2504,"date":"2011-06-19T00:01:55","date_gmt":"2011-06-19T04:01:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/?p=2504"},"modified":"2011-06-18T20:28:14","modified_gmt":"2011-06-19T00:28:14","slug":"blogging-at-the-annual-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/2011\/06\/blogging-at-the-annual-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Blogging at the Annual Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At this time next week, we\u2019ll be in the middle of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alaannual.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">ALA\u2019s Annual Conference<\/a>. Held this year in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.neworleanscvb.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">New Orleans<\/a>,\u00a0 the Conference promises to be hot\u2026. but also a great opportunity for learning, networking and renewing commitment to what libraries are all about. During the conference, we will <strong><em>not<\/em><\/strong> have our regular, daily posts. Instead we will have multiple shorter posts each day.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to myself, seven other people have committed to doing short posts throughout this conference so blog readers can have a feel for what is happening in New Orleans. \u00a0They represent some of the wide diversity that is found among ALA attendees:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mary      Ann Scheuer<\/strong> has just finished her 4<sup>th<\/sup> year as an elementary      school librarian and is attending the annual ALA Conference for the first time this year.\u00a0 She also writes the <a href=\"http:\/\/greatkidbooks.blogspot.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Great Kids Blog<\/a> \u201cwhere you can always find new books to      read with your kids!\u201d\u009d<\/li>\n<li><strong>Abby      Johnson<\/strong> is one of our regular bloggers. As you can read in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/?page_id=76\" target=\"_blank\">blogger      profiles<\/a>, Abby is the Children\u2019s and Outreach Services Manager at the New      Albany-Floyd County Public Library in New Albany, IN. You can also find      her blogging at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abbythelibrarian.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Abby (the) Librarian<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cat      Urbigkit<\/strong> from Pinedale,       Wyoming wears several hats. She      is a trustee for a public library system in western Wyoming, a first time ALA Conference      attendee and an award-winning writer &amp; photographer \u2014 she\u2019ll be doing      a book signing at the Boyds Mills Press booth on Saturday afternoon. He posts regularly on      the ALSC blog and will bring an insider\u2019s perspective to the ALSC blogging      at the conference. Because she will be      involved in an upcoming building project, she also hopes to spend some      time at the conference talking with vendors about teen\/children\u2019s spaces      and furniture<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cynthia      Robbins<\/strong> is a publisher\u2019s representative. She works as a Library Specialist      and National Accounts Manager at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.globepequot.com\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">Globe Pequot<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lisa      Taylor<\/strong> is one of our regular bloggers.
