After battling the elements to get to the branch (snow, snow, and more snow), I spent several days last week changing my seasonal displays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I am lucky to work (and live) in a truly diverse community that has for a long time featured large Catholic and Jewish populations and now boasts a growing African American community along with immigrant groups from Turkey and southern India. I\u2019m always excited to feature diverse books, and offering mirrors and windows to a diversifying neighborhood always seems very worthwhile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nothing makes this clearer than my holiday displays. I recently dismantled my Lunar New Year, Valentine\u2019s Day, and Presidents\u2019 Day books, plumped up my Black History Display, and looked ahead to upcoming holidays\u2026and what a plethora are approaching! Not to forget:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
February 26th<\/sup>: Purim<\/p>\n\n\n\n March 14th<\/sup>: Pi Day<\/p>\n\n\n\n March 17th<\/sup>: St. Patrick\u2019s Day<\/p>\n\n\n\n March 20th<\/sup>: Norwuz<\/p>\n\n\n\n March 27th<\/sup>: First day of Passover<\/p>\n\n\n\n March 28th<\/sup>: Holi<\/p>\n\n\n\n April 1st<\/sup>: April Fool\u2019s Day<\/p>\n\n\n\n April 4th<\/sup>: Easter<\/p>\n\n\n\n April 12th<\/sup>: First Day of Ramadan<\/p>\n\n\n\n April 22nd<\/sup>: Earth Day<\/p>\n\n\n\n April 30th: El d\u00eda de los ni\u00f1os\/El d\u00eda de los libros<\/p>\n\n\n\n May 5th<\/sup>: Cinco de Mayo<\/p>\n\n\n\n May 9th<\/sup>: Mother\u2019s Day<\/p>\n\n\n\n May 31st<\/sup>: Memorial Day<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was nice to think about all these spring holidays while looking out the window into a full-fledged blizzard!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now, I personally don\u2019t celebrate all of these, but every year I make sure my work calendar has these holidays marked so that I can ensure the displays are timely. These books fly off the shelves\u2014I am constantly looking at returns to replenish. The displays are good for customer outreach, for introducing holidays to others who don\u2019t celebrate them, and for circulation! <\/p>\n\n\n\n This post addresses the core competencies of I.
