September is Hispanic Heritage Month, and while I would never claim to be an expert on Hispanic Heritage, I do know a thing or two about books. So here are some of my top recommendations to share with your patrons this month – and all year long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s Go to Market<\/em> by Ra\u00fal the Third<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Do you love Richard Scarry? Do you love old-fashioned cartoons? Then you\u2019re going to want to check out Ra\u00fal Gonz\u00e1lez\u2019s \u00a1Vamos! <\/em>picture books, both of which follow Little Lobo and his dog Bernabe as they explore their town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Martina, the Beautiful Cockroach: A Cuban Folktale<\/em> retold by Carmen Agra Deedy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n In this retelling of the classic Cuban folktale made popular in the U.S. by Pura Belpr\u00e9 herself, a cockroach interviews her suitors in order to decide which one she should marry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Dragon Slayer: Folktales from Latin America<\/em> by Jaime Hernandez<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n A collection of three Latin American folktales retold in contemporary graphic novel format. With the addition of detailed backmatter, this is a must-read for fans of folklore and fantasy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ghost Squad<\/em> by Claribel A. Ortega<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n One of my favorite releases on the children\u2019s fiction market this year, Ghost Squad <\/em>tells the story of Lucely Luna and her family\u2019s business: ghosts. When Lucely and her best friend, Syd, cast a spell that awakens an evil spirit, the two must work with Syd\u2019s witch grandmother to stop the haunting before it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Total Eclipse of Nestor Lopez<\/em> by Adrianna Cuevas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n After relocating to live with his grandmother, Cuban-American Nestor must use his ability to talk to animals in order to clear her good name and <\/em>save his new hometown from a dark threat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ma\u00f1analand<\/em> by Pam Mu\u00f1oz Ryan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s the first day of summer break, and Maximiliano C\u00f3rdoba is excited to spend his days practicing soccer skills to join the local team and his nights listening to the magical stories Buelo tells.
