{"id":23659,"date":"2020-08-07T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-08-07T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/?p=23659"},"modified":"2020-08-06T22:39:19","modified_gmt":"2020-08-07T02:39:19","slug":"sharing-wearealsc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/2020\/08\/sharing-wearealsc\/","title":{"rendered":"Sharing. #weareALSC"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I recently recorded a quick <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/publications-resources\/cal\" target=\"_blank\">Q&amp;A video with <em>Children &amp; Libraries<\/em> Journal<\/a> Editor, Sharon Verbeten. Did you know she has been the CAL journal editor for <strong>18 <\/strong>years?! I did not know that! But one of the other statements she made during our Q&amp;A that really stuck with me was, \u201c<strong>We like to share in ALSC<\/strong>,\u201d and now more than ever I have found this to be true.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This has been a time where so many of us have probably felt isolated at different levels, in different ways. For me, it\u2019s been really heartwarming to see ALSC members continuing to <strong>share <\/strong>knowledge and offer <strong>support <\/strong>to each other in the ways they can. I\u2019d like to highlight some of the ways I\u2019ve seen members \u201cshare\u201d with each other during the past few months:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Sharing via the ALSC Blog<\/strong>: We\u2019ve had so many posts during the past few months that <strong>share <\/strong>self-care practices and program adaptations.<\/li><li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/alscvssg\" target=\"_blank\">Virtual Storytime Services Guide<\/a><\/strong>: We had over <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1N3kYsRgD7Ifi_rISPCPE338lXfvnBiInmzy88wKbwZM\/edit\" target=\"_blank\">two dozen library professionals<\/a> come together to <strong>share <\/strong>knowledge and time to develop this incredibly robust resource to <strong>share <\/strong>with the larger library community.<\/li><li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/wearealscchat\" target=\"_blank\">We Are ALSC Chats<\/a><\/strong>: We recognized that there was a great need for simple and informal virtual networking opportunities during this time. We have hosted a total of four chats thus far, three of them on Zoom and one on Twitter just yesterday. They covered topics and questions on self-care, school-age programs, virtual storytimes etc. ALSC\u2019s School-Age Programs and Services Committee has kindly written up notes from their two chats to <strong>share <\/strong>with you all and they can be accessed on the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/wearealscchat\" target=\"_blank\">ALSC website<\/a>.<\/li><li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/member-center\/engage\" target=\"_blank\">ALSC 101<\/a><\/strong>: ALSC\u2019s Membership Committee graciously hosted ALSC 101 last weekend. This session included a panel of ALSC members (Tasha Nins, Sierra McKenzie, Anna Taylor, Katie Salo, and Mary Fellows) all who are at different stages of their member journey\u2019s. They <strong>shared <\/strong>their time and some of their best ALSC stories with new and prospective members.<\/li><li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/bit.ly\/LookToLibraries\" target=\"_blank\">ALSC\u2019s #LooktoLibraries Initiative<\/a><\/strong>: so many people are playing a role in this new campaign, but I\u2019d like to send one shout out to ALSC\u2019s Quicklists Consulting Committee for pulling together a bunch of titles and resources to be included in this project. These resources are being <strong>shared<\/strong> with children\u2019s library professionals and the families they support. \u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sharing knowledge, time, and thoughtful\/funny\/kind words are my favorite things to share and I continue to be grateful to work with and for those who feel the same.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I recently recorded a quick Q&amp;A video with Children &amp; Libraries Journal Editor, Sharon Verbeten.
