The switch to virtual programming and meetings is annoying in some ways, but it has increased accessibility for many. That includes this opportunity to attend a meeting that, in the past, you would have had to go to the Annual Conference for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ALSC Annual Membership Meeting began with Dr. Claudette McLinn accepting the Distinguished Service Award. Watch the recording for Dr. McLinn\u2019s lovely speech, including highlights of her long career in school libraries and children\u2019s literature.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next were updates on ALSC business, including the status of events like the Arbuthnot Lecture, the National Institute, and the Children\u2019s Literature Legacy Lecture. The Public Awareness Committee shared some ways to adapt the Championing Children\u2019s Services Kit to today\u2019s world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A long conversation followed, moderated by the ALSC Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Task Force. Communication between the Task Force and members happened through video and through chat, about members\u2019 practices in moving toward more equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in their libraries and communities. Although the broadcast was only able to highlight a few voices due to time, the chat is well worth exploring for the depth and breadth of ideas shared on EDI practices across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The program concluded with some pre-submitted questions from members. Amber Creger, ALSC\u2019s Fiscal Officer, reassured members that although ALA is operating on a deficit, ALSC has a balanced budget for now. Tune in to hear the rest of the questions. Again, this is a great opportunity to catch the meeting if you missed it.
