I\u2019ll focus on this time of COVID-19\u2026 or maybe how we can combat systemic racism\u201d. My attention is scattered, flitting between searching for the most current research to support an informed post and re-reading re)-entry documents in advance of our soft launch of contact-free pickup next week.<\/p>\n<p>My reading takes me to information from <a href=\"https:\/\/traumainformedoregon.org\/workforce-wellness-strategies-during-covid-19\/\">Trauma-Informed Oregon<\/a>, reminding that during times of stress, we should \u201cprioritize relationships\u201d to \u201cbuffer a stress response\u201d and encourage resiliency. I came across an <a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.yale.edu\/childstudy\/scholasticcollab\/news-article\/24385\/\">article<\/a> from Yale Child Study Center-Scholastic Collaborative for Child and Family Resilience advising parents to look for clues as to how their child is dealing with COVID-19 anxiety in their imaginative play. I recall a reminder in the excellent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coloradovirtuallibrary.org\/csl-news\/webinar-archive-virtual-storytimes-filming-before-during-and-after-covid-19\/\">CLEL webinar on Virtual Storytimes<\/a> about the full complement of five practices. I re-read Carol\u2019s May <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/2020\/05\/back-to-basics-2\/\">Back to Basics?<\/a> post encouraging family reading. Play nurtures relationships, which in turn protect against stress \u2013 for adults and children. While we mourn the closing of library play areas, the outdoors is still available to gather sticks and rocks. When weather or other conditions inhibit outdoor play, blankets &amp; pillows make excellent forts. Play helps work out complex emotions.
