{"id":23387,"date":"2020-06-12T12:01:01","date_gmt":"2020-06-12T16:01:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/?p=23387"},"modified":"2020-06-10T21:31:48","modified_gmt":"2020-06-11T01:31:48","slug":"tales-from-self-isolation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/2020\/06\/tales-from-self-isolation\/","title":{"rendered":"Tales from Self-Isolation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I haven\u2019t had this much time off since high school summer vacation.\u00a0 However, a pandemic is a much more stressful than time off school.\u00a0 How did YOU continue being a librarian during this time off?\u00a0 Here\u2019s what I did.<\/p>\n<p>First, I helped with a portion of ALSC\u2019s upcoming Virtual Storytime Services Resource Guide.\u00a0 I am <em>very<\/em> excited to see the completed work!<\/p>\n<p>I live in Ohio, and thankfully, there were several online networking (and venting\/commiserating) opportunities.\u00a0 The <a href=\"https:\/\/library.ohio.gov\/services-for-libraries\/library-programs-development\/youth-services\/\">State Library of Ohio<\/a> continues to have a weekly \u201cOhio Youth Services Meet Up\u201d every Tuesday morning.\u00a0 I cannot tell you how much the sharing and listening that occurs in this meet up has helped me keep my sanity.\u00a0 In addition, the <a href=\"https:\/\/neo-rls.org\/\">North East Ohio Regional Library System<\/a> also had a series of meet ups that served the same purpose.<\/p>\n<p>I watched a bunch of free webinars from publishers and publications previewing upcoming book releases.\u00a0 My TBR pile has grown exponentially.<\/p>\n<p>And finally, I read.\u00a0 I know many people have struggled with concentrating enough to read during this uncertain period, but I somehow was able to read <em>more<\/em> than usual with the extra free time I had.\u00a0 Here are the middle grade titles I read:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.penguinrandomhouse.com\/books\/556948\/caught-by-georgia-bragg-illustrated-by-kevin-omalley\/\">Caught! both great criminals and mistreated innocents were brought to \u201cjustice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.penguinrandomhouse.com\/books\/608245\/my-life-as-a-potato-by-arianne-costner\/\">My Life as a Potato<\/a> by Arianne Costner\u00a0\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"
