I haven\u2019t had this much time off since high school summer vacation.\u00a0 However, a pandemic is a much more stressful than time off school.\u00a0 How did YOU continue being a librarian during this time off?\u00a0 Here\u2019s what I did.<\/p>\n

First, I helped with a portion of ALSC\u2019s upcoming Virtual Storytime Services Resource Guide.\u00a0 I am very<\/em> excited to see the completed work!<\/p>\n

I live in Ohio, and thankfully, there were several online networking (and venting\/commiserating) opportunities.\u00a0 The State Library of Ohio<\/a> continues to have a weekly \u201cOhio Youth Services Meet Up\u201d every Tuesday morning.\u00a0 I cannot tell you how much the sharing and listening that occurs in this meet up has helped me keep my sanity.\u00a0 In addition, the North East Ohio Regional Library System<\/a> also had a series of meet ups that served the same purpose.<\/p>\n

I watched a bunch of free webinars from publishers and publications previewing upcoming book releases.\u00a0 My TBR pile has grown exponentially.<\/p>\n

And finally, I read.\u00a0 I know many people have struggled with concentrating enough to read during this uncertain period, but I somehow was able to read more<\/em> than usual with the extra free time I had.\u00a0 Here are the middle grade titles I read:<\/p>\n

Caught! Nabbing History\u2019s Most Wanted<\/a> by Georgia Bragg\"\"<\/p>\n

The author of \u201cHow They Croaked\u201d and \u201cHow They Choked\u201d is back with another irreverent, but researched, history book, this time focusing on how both great criminals and mistreated innocents were brought to \u201cjustice.\u201d<\/p>\n

My Life as a Potato<\/a> by Arianne Costner\u00a0\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

Potato-hating Ben Hardy moves to Idaho, and you can imagine that\u2019s\u2026complicated.\u00a0 Trying to prove himself in his new school, he plays a prank that accidentally causes injury to the school\u2019s mascot.\u00a0 Ben\u2019s choice:\u00a0 suspension or become the mascot himself\u2026and it\u2019s a Potato Spud.\u00a0 Can he make it through the basketball season without being discovered?<\/p>\n

A Wish in the Dark<\/a> by Christina Soontornvat\u00a0 \u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

This book is a delightful Thai-flavored, magical tale inspired by Les Miserables.\u00a0 That was enough for me to pick it up!<\/p>\n

Clean Getaway<\/a> by Nic Stone\u00a0\u00a0\"\"<\/p>\n

Scoob got in trouble at school.\u00a0 He was defending someone who was being bullied, but his dad won\u2019t listen.\u00a0 So when his grandmother G-Ma pulls up in an RV, Scoob takes off without asking.\u00a0 G-Ma and Scoob are retracing a road trip she and Scoob\u2019s grandfather never finished by in the 1960\u2019s, using the couple\u2019s own Green Book.\u00a0 See, G-Ma is white, and her husband was black, so the Green Book was needed to travel safely.\u00a0 But Scoob notices that something is up with G-Ma.\u00a0 For one thing, she dined and dashed at a restaurant!\u00a0 Can he solve the mystery before they are caught?<\/p>\n
