It was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/ala\/conferencesevents\/celebrationweeks\/natlibraryweek\/index.cfm\" target=\"_blank\">National Library Week <\/a>and it seemed like every time I turned on my computer\/TV, or picked up a newspaper\/magazine, I saw more pieces celebrating libraries and librarians. I gotta tell you, it was fun to see so many folks so enthusiastic about one of my favorite places!<\/p>\n<p>Here are four of the pieces I really enjoyed from National Library Week 2011:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The American Library Association created a video for YouTube called \u201cNational Library Week 2011: What Isn\u2019t Great About Libraries?\u201d\u009d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><object width=\"480\" height=\"390\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/ziWqxlxVZLc?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed width=\"480\" height=\"390\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/ziWqxlxVZLc?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NPR\u2019s Pop Culture blog <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/blogs\/monkeysee\/\" target=\"_blank\">Monkey See<\/a> offered a post by Linda Holmes titled &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/blogs\/monkeysee\/2011\/04\/11\/135314291\/the-library-card-as-a-pop-culture-fiends-ticket-to-geek-paradise\" target=\"_blank\">The Library Card as a Pop-Culture Fiend\u2019s Ticket to Geek Paradise<\/a>.&#8221; I encourage you to read the whole post, but here is a just a taste:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>\u201cThe point I\u2019m trying to make is that as a pop-culture-adjacent person, you may think that public libraries are not particularly relevant to you. But I felt like since we\u2019ve talked about movie pricing, e-book pricing, and a lot of other business models, it was only fair to bring to your attention my experience with this bizarre business model that\u2019s so crazy it just might work.<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We&#8217;ve all heard of flash mobs, and have probably all watched some on YouTube, but have you ever heard of a flash freeze mob?\u00a0 Check out this celebration of National Library Week which occurred in a shopping mall in Massachusetts:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><object width=\"640\" height=\"390\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/6CgDmratqX0?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><embed width=\"640\" height=\"390\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/6CgDmratqX0?fs=1&amp;hl=en_US&amp;rel=0\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/LIVING\/\" target=\"_blank\">CNN&#8217;s Living<\/a>, Kerith Page McFadden wrote an article titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2011\/LIVING\/04\/12\/librarians.masters.of.universe\/index.html?hpt=Sbin\" target=\"_blank\">Librarians: Masters of the Info Universe<\/a>. After a list of fun trivia about library and librarians, McFadden concludes with\u00a0 <em>Final Warning to Readers about Librarians<\/em> which made me laugh out loud!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Hope your National Library Week celebrations were excellent!
