I do not know about all of you, but I am very excited to see The<\/em> Lion King<\/em> this weekend! I really enjoyed the live-action version of\u00a0Aladdin<\/em>, but I am *really* looking forward to The Lion King<\/em> because the original holds a special place in my heart. It was a movie I watched many times as a kid. (Plus, Beyonc\u00e9!)<\/p>\n

Hakuna matata, what a wonderful phrase! It means no worries, for the rest of your days. Celebrating the release of the new movie, I did a craft this week I would like to share you all. The age group was tweens (9-12 year olds), and the program was pop culture centered, so we called it Hakuna Matata.<\/p>\n

I found this awesome stencil<\/a> on a (C) Disney Style website. At first I was overwhelmed with the possibilities! I absolutely loved the idea of stenciling Simba onto a t-shirt or canvas bag. However, as the program was to take place inside, I did not want to use fabric spray paint. (If you do, please send me a pic!)<\/p>\n

First things first, here is my example:<\/p>\n

I cut out the stencil of Simba from the page I had printed it on, and then taped it to a white piece of paper. Using a black oil pastel, I traced Simba onto the paper. Once he was traced on, I used other colors that were inspiring me that day to create a powerful background, because Simba is a powerful character.<\/p>\n

The day of the program, I wound up being pleased that the craft was to take place inside. There was a torrential down pour that would have prevented us from doing this outside.<\/p>\n

When the tweens arrived, they were psyched, but not all had seen the original Lion King <\/em>from 1994, so I showed them some pictures of Rafiki drawing Simba in his tree house on my smart phone.<\/p>\n

Also, listening to the soundtrack for the new film set an awesome vibe throughout the program.<\/p>\n

You can see here, one of my tweens was a perfectionist, and she scratched her original drawing and started over.<\/p>\n
