At school visits, before and after reading a poem aloud, I share information about the poet and illustrator.\u00a0 This year, I also focused on the title of each poem. \u00a0For example, when introducing Pencil Plunge<\/em><\/a> by Laura Purdie Salas<\/a>, I asked, \u201cWhat is the poem about?\u201d A few of my favorite answers:\u00a0 It\u2019s a pencil doing the polar bear plunge!\u00a0 It\u2019s a pencil plunging into a toilet and then turning into an actual plunger.<\/p>\n My appreciation for poetry and art started with an amazing poetry book edited by Jan Greenberg,\u00a0Heart to Heart: New Poems Inspired by Twentieth-Century American Art<\/em>.<\/a>\u00a0 It\u2019s a wonderful combination of poems matched with famous artists. Think of all the fabulous art questions!
