I was so delighted with <em>Press Here <\/em>that I purchased multiple copies that holiday season and gave it to every toddler and preschooler I know.\u00a0 Several relatives of these kids told me it became their favorite book.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Those children are now 11 years old\u2026and in the years since I have can across more and more books using these techniques.\u00a0 Tullet has written several others (shout out to <em>Mix It Up<\/em>, focusing on color mixing).\u00a0 Christie Matheson has authored many such books, such as <em>Tap the Magic Tree<\/em> (the seasons), <em>Plant the Tiny Seed, <\/em>and<em> Touch the Brightest Star.\u00a0 <\/em>Jessica Young\u2019s <em>Play This Book <\/em>and <em>Pet This Book, <\/em>Salina Yoon\u2019s <em>Tap to Play<\/em>, <em>What\u2019s Next Door <\/em>by Nicola O\u2019Byrne and <em>Shake the Tree <\/em>by Chiara Bignocchi, Paolo Chiarinotti and Silvia Borando all fit this bill.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I have used these books both one and one and in storytime.\u00a0 Yes, you can use them with a group\u2014you just have to be creative on how all the children can do the actions that effect the book.\u00a0 My colleage Jo Schofield (she&#8217;s also written for this blog) uses these titles with developmentally disabled adults as well, to great effect.\u00a0 I also used <em>Press Here<\/em> as part of International Dot Day (look at Peter Reynolds\u2019 webpage for more information).\u00a0 Children love these books and react to them positively\u2026and loudly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m always looking for more such interactive titles.\u00a0 Which have you found?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2011, I read a most unique (at that time) picture book\u2014Herve Tullet\u2019s Press Here.\u00a0 My guess is that most of you are now familiar with the book, but in case you are not:\u00a0 Tullet created an interactive story where the author instructs the child to press a yellow dot which appears to affect when happens after the page turn.\u00a0 Thanks to the child\u2019s directed actions, the dot multiplies, changes colors, moves around the page, and grows.\u00a0 Meanwhile, the child gets a chance to tap, rub, tilt, and blow on the book. &nbsp; I though the book was brilliant. \u00a0In a way, it mimicked interacting with a tablet while still giving the child an experience with a book.
