Welcome to Cincinnati! We\u2019re excited to host you for the 2018 ALSC National Institute September 27th<\/sup>-29th<\/sup>. <\/p>\n

Cincinnati has a long history; the area was settled by colonizers in 1788 and is the homeland of the Fort Ancient, Hopewell, Shawnee, Miami, and Delaware peoples. Cincinnati has the nickname \u201cPorkopolis\u201d because in the 19th<\/sup> Century it was a meat-packing boomtown. We are an arts, entertainment and sports-loving city; in addition to many professional sports teams, we are home to Music Hall<\/a>, The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center<\/a>, The Cincinnati Art Museum<\/a>, The Taft Museum of Art<\/a>, The Contemporary Arts Center<\/a>, Artworks Cincinnati<\/a> and The Cincinnati Museum Center<\/a>. We\u2019re also a book-loving city. Did you know that we have seven<\/em> Carnegie libraries, our forty-branch library system<\/a> is the second busiest in the country AND we have several indie bookstores?<\/p>\n

We\u2019re the People Collective<\/a> is a group of library professionals and educators devoted to inclusion, social justice and critical evaluation of children\u2019s literature.
