It&#8217;s been a long road to hoe, but you&#8217;re just the Joe to hoe it.&nbsp; It&#8217;s time to don the oven mitts and grab the red hot throat of back-to-school!&nbsp; You&#8217;re going to need a strong dose of resources to help this season&#8217;s batch of students succeed this fall, winter &#8211; and beyond!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-national-library-of-medicine\">National Library of Medicine<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">No, I&#8217;m not going to ask you to visit the National Library of Medicine (NLM) for remedies for your upcoming stresses.&nbsp; This month, we&#8217;re talking about their AMAZING resources for kids!&nbsp; They&#8217;ve got something for every age group and every electronic device.&nbsp; So <em>let&#8217;s getting digging!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-free-stuff\">Free Stuff!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, let&#8217;s start with the cool NLM swag.&nbsp; Bet you never thought you&#8217;d hear that in the same sentence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Visit <a href=\"https:\/\/nnlm.gov\/sea\/order\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NLM&#8217;s Educational and Printed Materials<\/a> section of their site to order posters, trifolds, bookmarks, and more.\u00a0 There&#8217;s stuff for you, your library and your patrons.\u00a0 You can order up to <strong>50 of each for <em><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">free<\/span>!\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>For my library &#8211; a small rural public library &#8211; I ordered 50 of the K-12 Web Resources brochure.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be taking them to open evenings at schools.\u00a0 One for me and 49 for them!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For your adult patrons, they&#8217;ve got lots of Medline materials<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parents and caregivers will love the brochure explaining the health effects of common household products<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Environmentally aware students will enjoy <em>Tox Town,\u00a0<\/em>which shows the environmental health and toxic substances in your hometown<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-tox-town\">Tox Town<\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/toxtown.nlm.nih.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/toxtown.nlm.nih.gov\/img\/notextrow1.png\" alt=\"Hero Image\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/toxtown.nlm.nih.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tox Town<\/a> is a portion of the NLM site that focuses on toxins, the potential health effects and how to protect yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I really want to highlight the <a href=\"https:\/\/toxtown.nlm.nih.gov\/tools-for-teachers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tools for Teachers<\/a> portion:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list contentul1\">\n<li><a id=\"anch_69\" href=\"https:\/\/www.toxicology.org\/education\/k12\/k12.asp\">K &#8211; So here&#8217;s some electronic games and videos from NLM that help kids learn all about environmental issues:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list contentul1 top10\">\n<li><a id=\"anch_53\" href=\"https:\/\/kids.niehs.nih.gov\/topics\/environment-health\/meet-the-scientist\/lab-coat\/index.htm\">Outbreak at Watersedge: A Public Health Discovery Game<\/a>\u00a0(University of Minnesota) [en espa\u00f1ol]<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a id=\"anch_59\" href=\"https:\/\/kidsenvirohealth.nlm.nih.gov\/video\/generic\/3\/26\">Super Mallio Brothers<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; This parody on a classic video game teaches students about the dangers of the chemicals used in the production of plastics for the environment and human health.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a id=\"anch_60\" href=\"https:\/\/kidsenvirohealth.nlm.nih.gov\/video\/generic\/3\/27\">Farmtastic Plastic<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; In this animated adventure, Polly Mer guides Olivia through the process of \u201cgrowing\u201d plastics on a plastics farm, introducing her to concepts such as monomers and polymers in a game-like environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a id=\"anch_61\" href=\"https:\/\/kidsenvirohealth.nlm.nih.gov\/video\/generic\/3\/28\">Phthalamon: Phthalates and Your Health<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; Journey with Pollymer and two gameworld adventurers to a faraway land of Plasteroth.
