Beginning at 7:45 am PST, nineteen different awards will be announced including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/ala\/newspresscenter\/mediapresscenter\/presskits\/youthmediaawards\/corettascottkingbookawards.cfm\">Coretta Scott King Book Awards<\/a> which honors African American authors and illustrators of outstanding books for children and young adults that demonstrate sensitivity to &#8220;the African American experience via literature and illustration.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/ala\/mgrps\/divs\/alsc\/awardsgrants\/bookmedia\/newberymedal\/aboutnewbery\/aboutnewbery.cfm\">John Newbery Medal<\/a> for the most distinguished American children&#8217;s book published the previous year.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/ala\/mgrps\/divs\/yalsa\/booklistsawards\/printzaward\/Printz.cfm\">Michael L. Printz Award<\/a> awarded to a book that exemplifies literary excellence in young adult literature.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/ala\/mgrps\/divs\/alsc\/awardsgrants\/bookmedia\/caldecottmedal\/aboutcaldecott\/aboutcaldecott.cfm\">Randolph Caldecott Medal<\/a> awarded to the artist of the most distinguished\u00a0American Picture Book for Children published in the United States during the\u00a0preceding year.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/ala\/mgrps\/divs\/alsc\/awardsgrants\/bookmedia\/sibertmedal\/sibertbout\/index.cfm\">Robert F. Sibert Informational Book Medal<\/a> awarded to the author(s) and\u00a0illustrator(s)\u00a0of the most distinguished informational book published in English during the preceding year.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/ala\/newspresscenter\/mediapresscenter\/presskits\/youthmediaawards\/schneiderfamilybookaward.cfm\">Schneider Family Book Award<\/a> which honors an author or illustrator for a book that embodies an artistic expression of the disability experience for child and adolescent audiences.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/ala\/mgrps\/divs\/alsc\/awardsgrants\/bookmedia\/geiselaward\/geiselabout\/index.cfm\">Theodore Seuss Geisel Award<\/a> is given to the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the most distinguished American\u00a0book for beginning readers\u00a0published in English in the United States during the preceding year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For the first time,\u00a0 the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/ala\/mgrps\/rts\/glbtrt\/stonewall\/index.cfm\">Stonewall Children&#8217;s &amp; Young Adult Literature Award<\/a> will also be announced as part of the ALA Youth Media Awards. This award is administered by the<strong> <\/strong>ALA\u2019s Stonewall Book Awards Committee of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered Round Table and is awarded annually to English-language works for children and teens of exceptional merit relating to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered\u00a0experience.<\/p>\n<p>To allow as many interested people as possible the opportunity to hear the announcements, the ALA will provide a free live webcast.
