We\u2019ve all heard of toddler and preschool dance parties, but babywearing dance parties are starting to be a huge hit too! Don\u2019t believe me? Just check youtube<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On a gray Tuesday morning, a group of grown-ups and their littles attended a high energy babywearing dance party at the Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne, IN. Librarians Dori and Erin led the fun while wearing stuffed kangaroos and shimmying to some great tunes.<\/p>\n

The playlist was a mix of popular dance tunes for the grown-ups and favorite storytime tunes for the kiddos. Scarves, egg shakers, and noise makers were on hand as dancing props, and an early literacy tip was shared between each song so that everyone could have a breather and learn something new at the same time.<\/p>\n

Thinking of hosting your own babywearing dance party? Here are a few tips:<\/p>\n

  1. Make sure you have enough space.<\/li>\n
  2. Consider having an expert on hand to ensure babies are safe and secure in their slings. We had a babywearers group there with extra slings and the knowledge to help those who may need it (including a librarian who wasn\u2019t quite sure how to fit a kangaroo with a tail into the carrier).<\/li>\n
  3. Keep the songs short. We started with the Macarena, which was just a little too long.<\/li>\n
  4. Have lots of fun!<\/li>\n
  5. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
