{"id":16609,"date":"2017-09-30T00:01:37","date_gmt":"2017-09-30T04:01:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/?p=16609"},"modified":"2017-09-25T08:04:42","modified_gmt":"2017-09-25T12:04:42","slug":"nominate-someone-distinguished-service-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/2017\/09\/nominate-someone-distinguished-service-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Why you should nominate someone for the Distinguished Service Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every year since 1992, ALSC has awarded the distinguished service award to someone who has made a lasting contribution or impact on library services for children or ALSC.\u00a0 \u00a0Any member of ALSC (and ALA) can nominate someone who is also a member of ALSC (and ALA) (this, hopefully, means you).\u00a0 Below are a few reasons why you should think about it, along with a picture of my cute cat (because who doesn\u2019t need another cute cat picture?).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Top Ten Reasons to Nominate Someone for the Distinguished Service Award Today:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">10. There are only approximately 62 days before the <strong>December 1<\/strong> deadline to nominate someone inspiring for ALSC\u2019s Distinguished Service Award.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">9. The DSA is a way to see their work recognized.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 30px;\">5. In these often turbulent times, it is often difficult to feel like you can easily contribute and make a difference.Nominating someone for DSA is good practice for making your voice heard (and it will be heard!) for the road ahead.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">4. If your nominee wins, you get to hear them give what is typically an inspirational speech at annual about their career. It\u2019s been one of my favorite parts of ALA Annual!
