The recent proposal of the White House budget completely eliminates the Institute of Museum and Library Services<\/a> (IMLS). IMLS is the only federal agency that supports our nation\u2019s libraries, providing services and $210 million dollars in annual funds through state library agencies.<\/p>\n

Wiping out IMLS would negatively impact hundreds of thousands of libraries\u2019 services, especially for children. We must take action now and ask our representatives to sign the \u201cDear Appropriator\u201d letters to save IMLS! Without these funds, children will lose access to resources and services that help them succeed in school and in life.<\/p>\n

For instance, in 2014 Georgia Public Library Service received a grant to develop an early literacy program for young children up to 4 years old. With an IMLS grant, the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County purchased and outfitted a \u201cPop-Up Library\u201d van to provide mobile library services to the community including remote areas that otherwise wouldn\u2019t have library access.<\/p>\n

There are countless other examples of the reach of IMLS. Chances are your library has benefited from an IMLS grant. We need statements about the impact of IMLS funding on the children and families you serve.<\/p>\n
