{"id":14895,"date":"2017-01-21T12:42:21","date_gmt":"2017-01-21T17:42:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/?p=14895"},"modified":"2017-01-21T12:42:21","modified_gmt":"2017-01-21T17:42:21","slug":"alsc-distinguished-service-award-alamw17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/2017\/01\/alsc-distinguished-service-award-alamw17\/","title":{"rendered":"ALSC Distinguished Service Award at #alamw17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For me, one of the highlights of the Leadership and ALSC meeting is the announcement of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/awardsgrants\/profawards\/distinguishedservice\">ALSC Distinguished Service Award<\/a> winner. <!--more-->Given annually, this award recognizes an &#8220;individual member\u00a0of\u00a0the Association\u00a0for Library Service to Children (ALSC)\u00a0who has made significant contributions to, and an impact on, library service to children and\/or ALSC.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Today, <strong>Ellen Fader<\/strong> was announced as this year&#8217;s recipient.<\/p>\n<p>Ellen was unable to attend the meeting, but sent powerful words to be read in her absence:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I believe so strongly in the success of ALSC and America&#8217;s libraries and I treasure this honor. I will accept it with all of ALSC&#8217;s members in mind, people who taught me to speak up and advocate for what I believed, who showed me that being a youth librarian is really about a career in activism and social justice, and who led me out of my comfort zone to years of leadership for my community&#8217;s young people and those across America.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Congratulations, Ellen.
