That\u2019s right: ban a book.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>There is no better way to celebrate your freedom to read whatever you want than to have someone take that freedom away. So we are doing just that.<\/p>\n<p>Voters must choose one of seven carefully selected titles from ALA\u2019s list of banned and\/or challenged books. Titles up for removal and the reasons they should be banned from RPL\u2019s collection are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Alice\u2019s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll (Profanity, Sexual Content, Drug References)<\/li>\n<li>The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank (Sexually Explicit, Homosexual Themes)<\/li>\n<li>The Call of the Wild by Jack London (Bloody Violence, Animal Cruelty)<\/li>\n<li>The Holy Bible (Sexually Explicit, Racist, Violence to Children and Women)<\/li>\n<li>Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder (Racist, Derogatory, Offensive to American Indians)<\/li>\n<li>The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien (Excessive Violence, Includes Profanity, Racist)<\/li>\n<li>To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (Filthy and Trashy, Racist, Sexual Content)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Voting is open through October 1<sup>st<\/sup> and<strong> you<\/strong> can vote for the book you don\u2019t think our customers should have access to <a href=\"http:\/\/apps.rochesterpubliclibrary.org\/apps\/youth\/banned_book\/booklist.cfm\">by clicking here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Happy banning!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To celebrate Banned Books Week, Rochester Public Library (MN) has invited customers (and you!) to vote to ban a book.
