Batchelder Award Committee invites you to help identify eligible titles. The terms of the award are as follows:<br \/>\n\u201cThe Mildred L. Batchelder Award shall be made to an American publisher for a children\u2019s book considered to be the most outstanding of those books originally published in a foreign language in a foreign country and subsequently published in English in the United States during the preceding year.\u201d\u009d Honor books may be named.<\/p>\n<p>There are additional considerations. Eligible books are for readers within the age range of 0-14 years. Readers \u201cshould be able to sense that the book came from another country.\u201d\u009d Books should have a \u201csubstantial\u201d\u009d translated text since this award focuses on text rather than illustration. Books should not be unduly Americanized. Both fiction and nonfiction are eligible, but folklore is excluded.<\/p>\n<p>For your information, the 2011 Award will be announced at the ALA Youth Media Awards press conference at Midwinter in January 2011 (San Diego) and presented at the Annual Conference in June of 2011 (New Orleans).<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about the Award and for listings of current and past winners, see the Mildred L.
