I\u2019m ready for school! Singing the song, \u201cGoing back to Cali\u201d by LL Cool J but I changed the words \u2026\u201dgoing back to school, to school, to school\u201d and \u201cI\u2019m ready!\u201d I have a jar pencils, a rolled up map of school books and four school poems to yell out. I\u2019m ready for school open house nights!<\/p>\n

Jar of Pencils:<\/strong> On my library display table, I have a small cork board and one huge jar of library pencils with a small sign next to it that says, \u201cWhat would you do if you were a pencil?\u201d Families write out their responses on small note cards and post them for display. \u00a0My favorite response from last year was, \u201cI would roll off the desk and get stuck on a piece of old gum.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Families also enjoy guessing how many pencils are in the jar.<\/p>\n

Supplies:<\/strong> A huge jar, lots of pencils and a small cork board to post pencil poems or activities.<\/p>\n

Map of School Books:<\/strong> On butcher paper, I created a swirling map of what one day at school might look like. I used a collection of favorite school picture books for each activity.<\/p>\n

4 Favorite School Poems:<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Sometimes, I have a few minutes to present to all of the families attending a school open house.\u00a0 I share library card information, library events,\u00a0library resources and interactive poems. \u00a0Families are yelling out words, turning into pencils and swinging on monkey bars.<\/p>\n
