Has your favorite author been recognized already? Check out the entire list of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/awardsgrants\/bookmedia\/wildermedal\/wilderpast\" target=\"_blank\">previous Wilder medal recipients.<\/a>\u00a0If not, let us know who you are thinking of and why!<\/p>\n<p>So what exactly does \u201csubstantial and lasting contribution\u201d mean? According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/awardsgrants\/bookmedia\/wildermedal\/wilderterms\/wildermedaltrms\" target=\"_blank\">criteria<\/a>, these books \u201coccupy an important place in literature for American children and that over the years children have read the books and that the books continue to be requested and read by children.\u201d\u00a0 If you are detail-oriented or historically minded, you might enjoy exploring the definitions and criteria behind the awards. \u00a0In reviewing these specifications, I can see the well-thought out process behind the awards, and it makes me appreciate the procedures that have been developed.
