{"id":11509,"date":"2015-11-25T00:01:21","date_gmt":"2015-11-25T05:01:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/?p=11509"},"modified":"2015-11-22T12:47:40","modified_gmt":"2015-11-22T17:47:40","slug":"student-to-staffers-where-are-you-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/2015\/11\/student-to-staffers-where-are-you-now\/","title":{"rendered":"Student-to-Staffers: Where are you now?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\">ALA Student-to-Staffers: Where are you now?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Way back in June of 2007, I had the honor of representing <a href=\"http:\/\/www.twu.edu\/slis\/\" target=\"_blank\">TWU&#8217;s School of Library and <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.twu.edu\/slis\/\" target=\"_blank\">Info<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.twu.edu\/slis\/\" target=\"_blank\">rmation Science<\/a> at ALA Annual in Washington, DC.\u00a0 I was a member of <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-11950 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/slis-button.gif\" alt=\"TWU SLIS-button\" width=\"65\" height=\"66\" \/><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/groups\/affiliates\/chapters\/student\/resources\/studenttostaffprogram\" target=\"_blank\">ALA&#8217;s Stude<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/groups\/affiliates\/chapters\/student\/resources\/studenttostaffprogram\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11949 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.alsc.ala.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/ALA-Annual.jpg\" alt=\"ALA Annual\" width=\"145\" height=\"147\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/groups\/affiliates\/chapters\/student\/resources\/studenttostaffprogram\" target=\"_blank\">nt-to-Staff <\/a>(S2S) Program, with assignment to the <a href=\"http:\/\/ala.org\/alsc\" target=\"_blank\">ALSC <\/a>Division.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/groups\/affiliates\/chapters\/student\/resources\/studenttostaffprogram\" target=\"_blank\">If you&#8217;ve never heard of the S2S program, you can read about it here.<\/a>\u00a0 There are 56 active ALA Student Chapter Groups at accredited graduate schools.\u00a0 Each is entitled to submit one name for consideration for the program.\u00a0 Schools have varying criteria. My school chose the student\u00a0&#8211; me \ud83d\ude42\u00a0based on an essay contest.\u00a0 Others have different criteria, but the end result is that 40 promising students\u00a0receive a free trip to ALA Annual in exchange for working with\u00a0 ALA\u00a0staff\u00a0during the week.\u00a0 I was able to choose with\u00a0whom I wanted to work. An aspiring children&#8217;s librarian, naturally, I chose <a href=\"http:\/\/ala.org\/alsc\">ALSC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It was my first connection with the national community of librarians.\u00a0 It was during my week as an ALA S2S er, that I first met ALSC&#8217;s own Aimee Strittmatter, Laura Schulte-Cooper, and\u00a0Marsha Burgess, and I began my continuing association with the division. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/alscconnectonline\/alsconnectonline\/alscconarcha\/sept2007\" target=\"_blank\">I wrote a piece about my experience for\u00a0 <em>ALSConnect<\/em><\/a>, now called <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/alsc\/alscconnectonline\/alsc-matters\">ALSC Matters<\/a><\/em>. (I am no less bright-eyed and bushy-tailed now.)<\/p>\n<p>If you know someone in grad school right now, do them a favor and let them know about the S2S program.\u00a0 If <em>you<\/em> participated in the S2S program, give a shout out!\u00a0 Did you work for ALSC at the conference?\u00a0 When or where did you attend?\u00a0 How wonderful was it?<\/p>\n<p>(The Student-to-Staff Program was established in 1973.
