I finally had one\u00a0this summer, when a parent objected to the inclusion of Robie Harris\u2019 much-acclaimed It\u2019s NOT the Stork! on our list of suggested reading for children entering second grade. The parent, whom I\u2019ll call \u201cDr. Z,\u201d wanted the title struck from the list and also removed from the juvenile nonfiction shelves and placed in our Parenting collection. Dr. Z wrote that its inclusion on the reading list and its placement on open shelves \u201cignores cultural values of many families.\u201d As a member of ALSC\u2019s Intellectual Freedom Committee, I felt pretty well-equipped to deal with this matter.
